This week one of our previous guests, Dr. Michelle Yetman, (Clinical Psychologist, Associate Professor Clinical at SAHP/CHILDREN'S CENTER) reached out to come back and talk this week about the suicide and depression rate in the pandemic as we enter Suicide Awareness Week. This episode does contain talk about suicide and self harm,  but is not graphic.

EP 91. Afghanistan Interview with Gage Nichols, USMC & Simple Church Member

On August 14th, 2021 a mass evacuation began in Afghanistan, leading to the withdrawal of all American citizens and tens of thousands of Afghans. One of our very own Simple Church members, Gage Nichols, is a marine and was deployed to the airport in Kabul during this evacuation. 

Co-Host Evan Semanco had been in contact with Gage, who grew up in the Simple Church, and shared a conversation with him as well as a fellow marine about their experiences on the ground, helping remove people from the sides of planes as they were taking off, and losing people in the suicide bombing on August 26th.

Our lead pastor Justin Haigler started the Simple Church in 2007 and his kids reflect on growing up during that process, what it's like being PK's (pastors kids) and funny stories from their experiences in the church.

This week's episode of Backstage with the Simple Church is unlike any other we've ever done; we went out on location! On Sunday, August 15th the Simple Church went to Splash Kingdom water park and baptized 97 people who decided to go public with their faith. 

 

We went out to talk to a few of them and hear why they decided to get baptized, thanks to everyone who was willing to share their story!

Dr. Keith Scott is a critical care medicine physician as well a research associate at LSU Medical School, and a friend of the podcast! He comes on this week to talk about his personal experience with long haul COVID-19, what he is seeing working on the front lines of the pandemic, and what he would say to Christians as a doctor.
